Day Seven

Day seven.

Only worked a half day today. Then visited the dentist. Everyone was amazed at how well my teeth look since last year. Got em cleaned and inspected. No cavities and very little plaque.

Came home and trimmed back a couple of old very large bushes. Cut em back to about 1 1/2 foot tall. No green on em now. They pretty had much obscurred both ends of the front of the house. One crowded the garage door pretty bad. Great day to be outside. 66 degrees in November. Gotta love it. Suppose to be 71 tomorrow.

Now it is time for a shower, a bite to eat and then get chapter four written. Hope you are enjoying the journey so far. I am.

Day Six

Day six has arrived. My word count goal for the end of the day is 10,000 words which will make the novel 20% complete.

I’ll be off to church then back home to write. I plan to write three chspters today each around 2,000 words. I suspect they may end up containing more which would be a good thing.

In between writing chapters I will be enjoying the great weather and working on the yard and gutters. That should energize me for writing.

Day Five

Today begins with a day trip to my hometown of Dayton, Oh. Going to drop off a laptop to my nephew Jeff and pick up a bass guitar at Don’s Pawn Shop. The bass is a Schecter Stiletto Custom-5 string. Another toy to occupy my time. Jeff’s brother Will is coming along for the ride. He thinks I am buying lunch at the Submarine House. He is probably right.

I will catch my nephew Jeff at the Dayton Train Show at Hara Arena. My sister and her hubby will be there also, manning a booth for their train club. My frst time to a train show. This annual event is sposered each November by members of the “Miami Valley” Division 3 of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA), Inc., Mid-Central Region.

I plan to visit an old friend Denny Mikel while there. He and his wife Mary welcomed me into their home a couple of times a month for several years when I would travel home to visit my mother before she died. Mary was gracious enough to tolerate Denny and I hammering out the truth together. It will be good to see them.

I hope to be back early enough to do some writing before the LSU/Alabama game.

Have a great day.

Defining Characters

I have decided to define the characters using the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator. I have not really focused on characters much in previous stories, but I need to develop more as a writer in regards to this, so I am experimenting a bit.

As an example, Elizabeth is the mother of John the Baptists, the wife of Zechariah. Elizabeth will be an INFJ.

I will use this as a basis for determining many qualities about her, such as her passions, the way she communicates and interacts with others, the importances of personal versus community values/beliefs, etc.

If you would like to learn more about the INFJ personality type go to:

Day 4

Last night was a catch up on sleep night. I have had trouble sleeping this week and was averaging 2-3 hours a night. I literally fell asleep around 7 and woke up at 4:30AM. Went back to sleep and got up at 7:30AM.

Tonight I plan to write at least one chapter focusing on the home life of Elizabeth and Zechariah. Saturday will be a day trip to Dayton, Ohio but I should get back in time to write something. Sunday is scheduled for a couple of chapters.

I believe I can hit 10,000 words by the end of the weekend. Wish me luck. : )

Day Three

Yesterday was a productive research day. I have been reading up on the Jewish culture and daily life for the time period the story is set in.

I will be writing about Elizabeth next and I have made some good progress on defining her character and have a sense of what I will write next.

Bless God

Day Two

I got off to a good start yesterday.  The word count for the first chapter was 2263. This leaves me a mere 47,737 words to go.  I hope you enjoyed reading chapter one as much as I enjoyed writing it. It left me excited to complete the novel as a whole.

Today I will shift the setting from heaven to the home of Elizabeth and Zechariah, focusing on Elizabeth and introducing her character. So, how does a 21st century American man get into the world of a first century Jewish woman? I don’t have a clue but will figure it out. Come and see for yourself when I post chapter two.

New Outline

I discovered yesterday that the traditional birthplace of John the Baptist is only five miles from Jerusaelm. I had originally chosen a town about thirty miles from Jerusalem. I had included several chapters getting Zecharias to and from Jerusalem but now need to revise my outline.

Since NaNoWriMo started this morning at midnight, I have decided to focus on writing the story and revising the outline as I go.

Later today I will have the beginning of the story posted here for you.

Outline completed

I have completed the 30 chapter outline for the book.

It will start in heaven with Gabriel being sent by God to speak to Zecharias then dive into the lives of Elizabeth and Zecharias as they prepare for the journey to Jerusalem.

It will follow them as they stop along the way to visit with relatives and finally arriving in Jerusalem. Then the story will settle in on the life of a priest while serving in the temple leading up to Zecharias’ encounter with Gabriel. It will also include Gabriel’s battle with Satan as he travels to speak to Zecharias.

Then the story will follow Elizabeth and Zecharias back to their home town, Antipatris and their visits with relatives again. Upon arriving home their relative and friends will gather to hear the strange story of a man and an angel.

The story then follows their daily lives as they process the news and ponder who their son will become.

Gabriel is sent again to the earth, this time to speak to Mary, Elizabeth’s young cousin. After her encounter she rushes to visit her cousin Elizabeth and stay with her for 3 months before returning home just before John is born.

Finally, we arrive at the days leading up to the birth of John and the celebration of the town of Antipatris when he is named and circumcised.

I look forward to the journey.

Welcome to wrimo2011

Welcome friend.

You have entered the strange and delightful world of John Pearson. As a writer, he is about to particpate in the NaNoWriMo one more time. If you are not familiar with it, just visit www.nanowrimo.org to learn more.

John will be posting the daily (hopefully daily) writing for his book, “His Name is John.” This is a fictional account of the birth of John the Baptist based on the Gospel of Luke chapter One.

I look forward to entertaining you as I strive to complete a 50,000 word novel in 30 days.

Bless God

John
